a weekend at my host counselor's home

再一次，暫且忘記所有project和report，由今天起到我的host counselor家中渡過一個週末
應該又是大吃大喝的時候了~yeah~

釋放

最痛苦的日子終於過去，完成了上星期五的political communication essay之後整個人都放鬆了，餘下來就只有兩份group project+presentation及兩份individual report


political communication essay的deadline是星期五下午二時，而星期五早上十至十二的international marketing lecture就壯烈犧牲了，上課的人沒有一半。而我，雖然挑燈夜戰了整個晚上，居然還頂著眼簾上課去，真是一個好學生。^u^

在這之後，終於有時間去做一些最基本要做的東西，洗衫、吸麈、到超市入貨、大睡、寫BLOG等等。

更加了解自己多一點，再一次肯定自己不喜歡讀書，這麼多年來的學業都是「混」和「捱」過去的，對我來說獨力完成一份essay比一個30K的遠足旅程更艱難，交功課前一天總是盟生一些消極的念頭「不如算了...不做了....」「如果可以抄就好了...」「這一份不是佔很多分，不交也應該可以過關的....」等等。可是最後還是將他們一一完成了。

我是個實幹型的人，喜歡一來就動手做，相信行動最實際那一種，所以做group project就好得多了！並肩作戰的感覺非常重要，很享受大家一起從無到有、從天馬行空腦震盪到找資料支持論述以致完成的過程。無論多困難總有人商量；無論多沉悶總有人一起渡過，最後一同分享屬於大家的成果，我喜歡這種感覺。而且，經過一連串的group work後，同學之間的關係緊密了不少，開始有凝聚力和歸屬感了。

至於我至為討厭的research method，想不到竟找到當中樂趣。原來SPSS很有用之餘還很神奇，實在為我們帶來不少震撼和興奮。很高興自己終於學懂了SPSS，確是個非常有用的program。

hiking trip - lord herefords knob

another hiking trip, get out of my normal life, get close to the nature and breath in fresh air.

again, an easy journey on flat and gentle route, it was very muddy as it rained before, my shoes were dirtied but it does bring some dignity to my hiking shoes, it can never be a pair of clean hiking shoes that never go places and step on different soil.

hiking is enjoyable because the activity itself is enjoyable or because we can see the nature? my answer to this question is: it is enjoyable because u have the nature and amazing scenery by walking there one step after another, no one can bring u such beautiful creation if you never ever make an effort to walk there, it is a prize for your hard work. (same philosophy for life)

projects essays presentations reports

Belgium - Brussels 16th - 18th Nov

made my first trip outside UK with sarah, hilda, eric and christy (all from hk, studying in different cities in uk). we chose this place for one reason - coz we found a cheap ticket to fly there!

nice trip, relaxing and joyful, didn't rush for anything, we all did very well to forget our heavy work load on study and enjoied it the most! ^u^

it was mid night when we arrive on fri night, and decided to walk to the hotel (yes, such a group of young traveller), but than we asked a local person where is the way, he suggested us to go by metro. we found the metro station and got in, waited there for 40 mins, talked and talked anf talked, and found out the metro already stopped. at the end, same as our original plan, we went on foot and arrived the hotel at around 2:30 am, and eventually went to bed at 4am. i can't discribe how excited we were when we saw a snack bar still open on our way to the hotel. haha! that was such fun experience, we love it very much as we all believe it will never happen again if we were 3-4 years older.

we ate so much in this trip!!! becasue we have been "brain washing" by the price in UK for 2 months, and eveything was cheap for us!! but actually they are not cheap at all.........ha! but still, much cheaper than uk.

another funny experience, we were looking for a place for breakfast on sat morning. we passed by a resturant which looks local and cheap, we poped in and saw many single man sitting there doing nothing and also there was no seat for us, so we left. than some 'customers' use their body language asking us to stay, so we went in again. finally we found out that was actually a social resturant for poor people, it's a social service and the food inside is FREE! haha~ felt like eating in 人民大食堂OR八號風球避寒中心. they also invited us to stay there for lunch, and ofcourse, we DID NOT! honestly, a bit scary.

i was totally a follower in this trip, didn't look at the map, didn't lead the way, didn't make any decision of where to go, leave them all to our only male group member - eric. this is not usual to me, but i managed it quite well, actually it is also good to be a follower.

given the fact that all my time already accupied by millions of projects and essays, looking at the two 60 pounds textbooks, both have only been read the first chapter, i just want to kill myself or kill the one who asked us to buy or kill those classmates who haven't buy but didn't stop me from buying it.

to be fair, there are something cheap in uk, i mean cheaper than hk

2. Boots
3. Dairy Products: milk, yoghourt, cheese, cream......etc
4. all sort of cereal

buffet

today went to chi buffet for lunch with my classmate, i ate double as what she had, but that was my 80% capacity only, and i didn't fill up the rest 20% just not to scare her.

brimingham

spent a weekend in brimingham and visit my cousin - sam
brimingham is much more "city" than cardiff, more people, more cars, more chinese restaurant, more stores, more tall building......etc.
i'll still choose cardiff if i ever have a chace to choose again.

on sat we went to shakespeare's birth place in Stratfors-upon-avon, 45 mins away from birmingham city. it's a pity that i didn't read any for his piece before going there, but anyway it was nice experience and Stratfors-upon-avon is a nice town.

on sun morning we went to "drink tea" and shopped in the BIG chinese supermarket, again, feel like home at those chinese places.

yoga class

went to the yoga class today, first time in my life.
i don't really like it, mum.....or i should say i am not good at it
i think i am not used to such gentle and slow exercise
just can't follow those movement and don't feel confortable to be in those position
but this is one of th the thing that i found it much cheaper than that in hk, just 1.7 pound for an hour
i might give it a try one or two more times, as it is actually good to strech and control those muscle that u never use in your life

good news

A bit busy recently, will update more next week, I do have something to share.

Just a follow up about my Hall Fee late payment penalty (50pounds), I went up to the Fin office today, with my cheque book and debit card, have the worse situation preparation which is PAY! I explained my situation again, showing them I did made my effort to pay on time but just transfered to another account by mistake. This staff is so much more empathy than the one talked with me on phone. She said “we’ve got your payment from the tuition department just 2 days ago, but let me check with my supervisor and see if this penalty can be exempted in your case.”

While she was talking on phone with the supervisor, I praied in my heart “Jesus, please! Please! Please! I’m such a poor student being alone in this cold and expensive country, please help.”

Praise the lord! They can exempt my penalty only if I agree to set up an auto-pay for the 2 future instalments. Thanks God and I bought myself an apple crumble as the celebration.

Rotary Club presentation

I have done my 3rd and 4th presentation for rotary in RC of Bridgend and RC of Llandaff.

Let me explain more, as i'm under rotary's scholarship, i have my duty to serve as an ambassador of rotary 3450(distrcit of hk) and HK. The way to do it is giving presentations in different rotary clubs. i do think the hk tourist board should achknowleadge me as i have been promoting hk so well infornt of british people.


at first, the experience was quite nice, nice meal, nice place. tell people about ur home twon, answering people's question who is interested in know more about u and ur place....etc















yet, the excitment went donw when u do it again

bonfire night

i went out play fireworks with people from the church, it wasn't huge and big fireworks like those in victoria harbour, but it was fun. (bonfire)

the difference is, in hk u will see big and amazing fireworks, but just within 30mins in one restricted location ; here u see small fireworks everywhere in the city and last for 3-4 nights.

the same thing is, just an excuse to play firworks

it's not fair

今天收到一張住宿逾期繳費的罰款通知
我肯定是已經準時在網上交妥費用的
於是致電查詢，原來我將錢存進了交學費的戶口，而交宿費的戶口是另一個
但竟然，這樣都一樣要付逾期繳費的罰款
他們的原因是，因為我們真的沒有在限期前收到你的費用.............................
太不近人情了! >_<
不如乾脆殺死我吧.....................

hiking trip - lord herefords knob

my first outdoor activity in UK, the scenery and path are very unusual for me.

we did 10k, but this 10k is so much easier than what i used to have in hk, all flat land, no ups and donws. 10k in hk is tiring, 10k here is kind of easy for me.

i do love hiking, this an outdoor activities that human and nature get really close together, as all you need is a pair of feet, and that's it.

the end point of the trip is llantwit Major, a lovely small town, we had a drink there and got a train back to cardiff.

適者生存和熟能生巧的體現

中國經濟起飛，路人皆知。不看別的，就他們在港消費的豪邁氣派就可以得知。這還不夠，從個人經驗而言，最感受到他們富裕是在英國。自問不是有獎學金的話根本沒有可能支付這裡的學費，在CARDIFF U，中國學生的數目實在遠超我所像，香港人反而不多。我班55人中就有12個中國人了。CARDIFF已經是相對少中國人的學校，LONDON MANCHESTER, BRIMINGHAM, LEEDS, BISTROL更多。不要以為他們都是來自北京、上海、廣州或一些沿海大城市，我認識不少人從湖南、湖北、甘肅、內蒙等省份來的。而且，他們的日子都過得很好，有些還開名車上學的，最窮的一定是我。那裡來這麼多有錢人呢?

常說，美容大法的第一重就是充足睡眠，所言非虛。在英國的日子平均每天睡10小時，皮膚的狀態有明顯改善，希望這一年的休養生息可以將我的表面年齡後推一點點。坦白說，睡眠對我來說不只是生理需要，我喜歡這個活動，快樂時懶洋洋地將自己埋在厚厚的被褥下再抱著心愛的毛公仔感覺多幸福；不快樂的時候抱頭大睡，這個世界發生什麼事都與我無關了，就縱容自己在床上逃避現實數小時，最高興就是經過充足睡眠之後起來看見自己精神飽滿、容光煥發的樣子。

開學接近6個星期，越來越知道PR是什麼一回事，說得俗套一點不外乎是包裝和隱惡揚善，卻是智慧之所在，也可以是一個機構/品牌/人物成敗的關鍵。它本質是一個很有力量的工具，如果其心不正的話，可以是一件很邪惡的事情。

以為自己可以一年不買東西，開始心思思想去逛街購物了.......

she is my firend from Japan - Hayase, under the Rotary Scholarship as well. Haya is a very lovely and friendly person, same age as me, but i feel like she is younger. She lives in the same block as me, thus we cook and eat together sometimes.
